What Is the Difference Between Soy and Normal Scented Candles?

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

Apart from Soy being cleaner to burn, what is the main difference, because i find soy candles don’t hold the scent as good as basic wax.

Soy candles burn slower, which makes it more affordable as compared to a regular candle.
Given, they are still pricey. But they’re much longer lasting.
Plus they burn at a lower temperature, which allows the scent to be distributed more evenly. Whereas a regular candle will put off a strong scent, but in the end all it burns is wax, since the oils were released too soon at too big an amount,

If you aren’t getting good scent from soy candles, then whoever made them is either not using fragrance oil for soy, or they are not using top grade soy wax. Buy from candle shops, you will get a better product.

I make soy candles, and quality of wax and oil is a priority. There are many grades of wax out there, and often manufacturers use the cheaper, too bad, but it’s true.

Soy candles don’t release any toxins into the air. Paraffin is a petroleum product, so you may also have an oil type smell, plus soot, and you will be breathing in the toxins released. It’s like inhaling fossil fuel and all it’s poison.

The downside of soy candles is that they are in containers. Soy is soft and doesn’t work as a stand alone candle, like tapers.

“Normal” candles are made from paraffin which is a petroleum product so they release fumes and toxins similar to car exhaust. 100% vegetable wax candles do not release toxins or pollution.

If you are unsatisfied with the way the soy wax holds the scent, there are some other vegetable waxes and vegetable wax blends that hold the scent better than soy wax. You might want to give them some of them a try. My favorite brand is Mia Bella. They are made with a vegetable wax blend and hold the scent very well all the way to the end of the candle.
