Soy candles can be used as one of the main attraction to your show cases and parties. There are a few simple steps by which you can make your beautiful soy candle. Each step is to be followed carefully if you really care about the quality of your outcome.
Before starting the procedure, one has to decide what type of soy candle they want to make.
The initial step in making soy candle is to measure the soy wax according to the size and type of soy candle you wish to make. In this article I am concentrating on votive candle. This needs 2 ounces of soy wax for each candle. For easy calculation, it is better to make an even number of candles, so when 4 soy candles are needed 8 ounces of soy wax is used.
The second step is the melting of soy wax. You can either use a wax meter or a double boiler for this purpose. Both wax meters and double boilers are easily available in the market.
The third step is adding colour to the soy wax. This can be done by adding dye to the soy wax and stirring with a wire whisk. A candle dye is used for this purpose. Other dyes such as food dyes will damage the consistency of the final product.
The fourth step is to add fragrance to the soy wax which makes the final soy candle more attractive. One and a half ounce of fragrance material is added and stirred for 2 minutes for the proper blending of fragrance material with the soy wax. The temperature should be maintained at 170 degree Celsius, or else the fragrance will not be mixed properly with the wax.
In the next step, the temperature of the wax is reduced to 150-155 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the mould is also increased to a little above room temperature by keeping in an oven. This improves the smooth finish of the final soy candle.
