Only if your son seems to have allergy problems or if they make his nose stuffy or sneezy. Otherwise, I don’t see a problem with it. I love candles and air fresheners… they are all over our house.
No it’s not bad just as long as the smell isn’t overwhelming and is still a light scent, although once baby is moving around you need to put them out of reach to avoid the baby being burned or spilling the hot wax, or catching something on fire.
I think they can’t be good for babies. Babies can develop asthma or allerigies when they are exposed to strong scents including candles and cleaning solutions. That’s why there’s such a push to go green with cleaning supplies…
Yes. most candles are toxic because they are made of paraffin. “[O]nce burned [paraffin] releases toxins that are known carcinogens such as benzene and toluene which are inhaled and linger in the areas they are burned in. … Soot from paraffin candles contains many of the same toxins found in diesel fuel. Paraffin candles are as dangerous to the lungs as second-hand smoke and even more so if you are in the habit of burning many at the same time.” “Some paraffin candles have wicks made with lead, which can cause lead exposure. Manufacturers are not required to disclose lead content.” “Gel Candles contain plasticizers & phthalates which can be extremely toxic especially to children… No agency regulates or oversees the candle industry & they can conceivably put whatever they wish into a candle & not have to label it.”
Of course, babies are more sensitive to all kinds of toxins, like lead, because they are smaller and they are still developing. To be safe, you should burn only 100% beeswax candles with no additives, or just don’t use candles, since they are a fire hazard.
I’ve heard they are not good because there are chemicals burning from the scented perfumes. Really, they aren’t that great for anyone to be around all day. Especially for babies.
